#FixINEC #FixNigeria Advocacy Overview for Citizens

The #FixINEC #FixNigeria is a citizen-driven initiative to reform Nigeria’s electoral system by addressing the critical failures of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). At the heart of Nigeria’s challenges lies poor leadership, enabled by a flawed electoral process that fails to reflect the people’s will. This campaign seeks to mobilise 50 million Nigerians to demand immediate and comprehensive reform, using the FixINEC FixNigeria Report and the Justice Uwais Report as blueprints for change.

INEC, as it stands, has significant flaws that undermine our democracy:

  1. Lack of transparency: Elections often lack credibility, leading to distrust in the system.
  2. Inefficiency: Poor logistics and planning disenfranchise voters.
  3. Manipulation: Electoral fraud, vote buying, tampering with results, and collation malpractice remain widespread.

Judicial weakness and Lack of Independence: INEC is often influenced and controlled directly and indirectly by federal and state government actors. In some cases, judicial decisions are based on technicalities and allegedly do not reflect the people’s will, leading to increased distrust of the electoral outcomes.
